Kaizen – Incremental Improvements

kaizenKaizen – Incremental Improvements

Little changes can add up big over time

Kaizen is a Japanese word that means improvement or change for the better.  Incremental Improvements can multiply in a big way over time.

I haven’t been exercising for a while and just started. I went to the gym Monday for about 30 minutes or so, I didn’t kill myself. I will go again on Friday. Eventually I will be going 3 times a week for about 90 minutes. If I tried that on Monday I would have been sore for a month.

Speaking of sore, I went to my first Krav Maga class last night. Krav is a deadly full contact Israeli Martial art. There are NO RULES which means it makes MMA look like a Dance Recital.  I basically sucked … but I will get much better. I went through everything and got very tired and out of breath. But I will improve a little every week. Over time I will be a beast and  trained killer … but a gentle one :)

This also applies do business, For example, if you are in MLM how many presentations did you do for your business yesterday?  If none, why not try and do one a day for the next few days. And then next week do two a day, then 3 etc. Kaizen at its best!

How much Personal development do you consume a day? If none, why not go on YouTube and listen to a 5 minute video by Les Brown or Jack Canfield or Tony Robbins?. One thing I have started doing is putting My IPhone on my night table and when I go to bed I go on YouTube and pull up some motivational stuff.

What would you rather have? a Million dollars right now or a penny doubled everyday for  a month? If you picked a million dollars you will have a million dollars. If you picked a penny doubled everyday you would actually end up with much more.

Kaizen – Here is what happens when you double a penny everyday for 30 days

Day 1: $.01
Day 2: $.02
Day 3: $.04
Day 4: $.08
Day 5: $.16
Day 6: $.32
Day 7: $.64
Day 8: $1.28
Day 9: $2.56
Day 10: $5.12
Day 11: $10.24
Day 12: $20.48
Day 13: $40.96
Day 14: $81.92
Day 15: $163.84
Day 16: $327.68
Day 17: $655.36
Day 18: $1,310.72
Day 19: $2,621.44
Day 20: $5,242.88
Day 21: $10,485.76
Day 22: $20,971.52
Day 23: $41,943.04
Day 24: $83,886.08
Day 25: $167,772.16
Day 26: $335,544.32
Day 27: $671,088.64
Day 28: $1,342,177.28
Day 29: $2,684,354.56
Day 30: $5,368,709.12

Up until day 27 you are better off taking the million dollars. But then Kaizen pays off big time!

Remember the old story about the Frog in the boiling water? If you put a frog in hot water he will jump out quickly. But if turn up  the heat he will never know what’s happening.  Why not  look at what you are currently doing in your life and your business and turn up the heat a little?

Put Kaizen to work for you. over time you will be become a beast!.

Jack

P.S. A good book that talks about Incremental Improvement is the Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. You can read more about Kaizen on Wikipedia
